Relative Motion (RM) collaborated with The Freedom Theatre (Jenin, Palestine) and the UK's Artists on the Frontline (formerly Creative Destruction) to deliver an English/Arabic made-for VR experience of a new verbatim theatre piece In A Thousand Silences - an epic journey through the personal stories and creative legacies of leading artists from the Occupied Palestinian Territories including filmmakers, poets, circus performers, cartoonists and actors.
The text explores the rich cultural fabric of the West Bank & Gaza highlighting the obstacles faced by many including arrest, imprisonment and censorship. Based on two years of interviews with artists across Palestine and its diaspora, their words are juxtaposed in a verbatim script that charts the inspiration, drive and ambitions of people at the forefront of one of the world's most exciting yet oppressed art sectors. April 4th 2021, is the 10th anniversary of the murder of Juliano Mer Khamis, Artistic Director / Founder of Jenin Refugee Camp’s The Freedom Theatre. This project sits at the heart of the theatre’s mission to use culture to fight for change, imagine an alternative future & highlight Palestinian human rights.
